GIFTSHOPMAG.COM 111 CAITLIN ABSHIER Founder & Owner, Cait & Company During college, Abshier sold her soaps and other crafts at local markets, creating a demand for her locally made goods. Since then, she has created three additional lines of products, creating a family of brands known under the name Cait + Co. It is known most notably for its give back program, in which five percent of all sales goes toward providing job training skills to women in developing countries. LISA BALL PONDER Fourth Generation Owner, Henry B. Ball West In 2005, Ball Ponder caught wind that her family's 100-year-old jewelry business was closing as her grandmother was no longer able to run it. She relocated to Akron, Ohio, and purchased the business from her family. Breathing new life back into the business, she remodeled, rebranded and relaunched as a fine jewelry and gift boutique. Henry B Ball West just celebrated its 102nd year under the watch of its fourth-generation owner. STEVEN BROUKHIM President, Brouk & Company After 10 years manufacturing men's gift items for other retailers and brands, Broukhim began to develop a line of quality, well-designed products. The relationships he developed with manufacturers allowed Brouk & Co to launch in 2014 with a solid and reliable product line. His vision in creating useful and high-design oriented gift items for men have set him apart from other men's brands. He continues to set the standard in men's gifts as evidenced by his inclusion of two items on Oprah 2017's list of Favorite Things. JOANNA ALBERTI Founder & Owner, philoSophies Alberti's mission for philoSophies is to design a character brand that's centered around art and is inspired by the power of positive thinking. She began the company in 2005 and by 2007, philoSophie's opened a boutique in Spencerport, New York where it continues to flourish. Alberti has been honored with several accolades, including Top 5 Under 25 for BusinessWeek 2005; The Knot Best of Weddings; and 2015 Spencerport Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, to name a few. CHAD CORIZINE Owner, The Urban Agriculture Company Two years ago, exploring his passion for organic food, Corzine left his job as director of business development at Archipelago Botanicals and set out to create his own garden in an urban setting. The result was a line of organic grow kits that simplify the process of city gardening by providing everything needed for a fun and easy growing experience. Corzine's company is rapidly expanding to include cocktail kits, infusion sets and even Christmas trees. Corzine also serves on the Gift For Life board, a charitable organization for the gift, stationery and home industries. PAUL COSARO Managing Partner, Picnic Time Family of Brands After six years in management consulting and strategic planning, Cosaro took on the challenge of transitioning his family's 30-yaer-old business to the next level and became managing partner in 2011. He has implemented a core value system, a company culture adored by employees and has taken a promising step toward the company's future success with its rebranding. JESSICA DEAN Guest Experience Manager, Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden The Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden is the state's oldest and largest cultural institution with more than 1,080,000 annual visitors each year. Originally from Oklahoma, Dean has been with the zoo for four years, serving as the gift shop manager. The source of the gift shop's growth is Dean's innovative mix of products, brands and original promotions. Prior to her joining the Zoo, she served as the production and merchandise manager for Linea Pelle in Los Angeles.
